Facebook has announced the introduction of hashtags. For marketer and business owners, this is a great chance to get found more easily.
Many page administrators were preoccupied when Facebook announced the New Newsfeed and now they got a new tool to use in their favour: with hashtags anyone can find your posts and Facebook page.
If you invent an hashtag for Twitter, you can now used it also on Facebook and drive traffic to your website or products from it. It is a great chance for those advertising their content.
Hashtags are not available to everyone yet, as usual Facebook is rolling them out slowly (I am told many still don't havethe Graph Search).
Exactly as on Twitter, Facebook will also have trending topics.
"Now you can:
- Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #NBAFinals.
- Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.
- Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results."
Content is king
Again (we will never stress this enough), it's all about content. You can create your own hasthags and make them trending if people use them. If you create good content around a topic users are already talking about, they will see you and find your page. Yes, like Twitter.
The biggest winners of #FBhashtags will probably be FB Pages since they are all public and thus accessible for conversation.

Verified Accounts on Facebook
If you missed it, there is another function Facebook has been "loaned" from Twitter in the last days: verified accounts. For public pages of celebrities, popular personalities and big brands, you will see a small blue badge button that authenticate worthiness of high-profile people and businesses on Facebook.
