Facebook has updated its ad formats. You may have already seen a couple of these on your Newsfeed. The biggest change comes to Page post link ads and Page like ads on September 10th.
Page post link ad:
Nowadays the links' thumbnail is a square of 200*200 pixels and marketers have been posting all over Facebook pictures including the link as a bit.ly URL on the status text. Facebook has taken notice and they are about to make the following changes:
After 10th of September a page post link ad (and probably in the furure non-advertised-posts as well) will have more space to click on and even 3.5 times bigger photo in it.
Image ratio: 1.91:1
Image Size: 1200*627
You can also include more text on the post. On Desktop Newsfeed there's room for 500 characters and on Mobile Newsfeed 110 characters. More than 110 characters and it will be truncated as usual. It's still recommended to keep your content simple and short and your main point in the first 110 characters.
Page like ad (standard ad)
This is the normal ad which has 90 characters, 100*72 px image and 25 char headline, the one you see all the time on your right-hand-side. On the Right hand side this isn't going to change that much, but on the Newsfeed Page like ads will look more like page post photo ads. (Status ad with photo.)
We have been using a lot of page post ads (link, photo, video) for a long time now, because they are a lot more engaging and have better CTR's than "standard ads". After 10th of September, with the new Photo size, normal Page like ads will probably have more effect on driving fans to like your page.
These changes will come up on Power Editor on September 10th and on Ads Manager in a few weeks.
