Cannes in June. What could it be like? I’ve never visited Southern France, but I imagine it will be exactly like The Talented Mr. Ripley. Except instead of Italy, we will be in the French Riviera, and none of us are Princeton graduates, and all the murders and identity theft will be replaced by, you know, a festival of creativity and innovation… But hey, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law might still be there!
So what do we know will happen? We will represent the
Rest Best of the World in a beach football tournament. We will attend inspirational seminars and talks, learn about effective marketing campaigns, spend our nights networking at pool parties and we will all get amazingly tan.
Looking at the massive line-up, there will be something for everyone. Every day will be an opportunity to do and learn something different. Also, looking at the beaches and clubs, we might also manage to have fun even outside the festival activities.
Cannes Lions is a global event, with attendees arriving from all over the world to learn, admire the year’s best campaigns, and at the end of the day, just blow off some steam! It will be extremely interesting to mingle in this international mob of people who do a lot of the same work and face the same problems we do daily. This trip will be as much of a cultural experience as it will be a learning one.
So what am I looking forward to the most? It’s impossible to pick one talk or workshop that would be the main event. However, some of the anticipated speakers are Pharrell Williams, Evan Spiegel (Snapchat CEO), Al Gore, Marilyn Manson, Kim Kardashian West. I’m also looking very much forward to hanging out with my colleagues and hyping each other about how awesome the day was and how much better the next day is probably going to be.
